Women have made significant contributions to science throughout history but these contributions have been layered with, and obscured by, another history – that of sexism in society, of different opportunities for girls and women – which is unfortunately echoed in science in many ways.
Supporting and encouraging more women to study science is an important priority for the University of Auckland and we’ve decided to celebrate this through our Women in Science campaign.
We aim to raise $125,000 to support scholarships, conference costs and academic positions with the aim of encouraging more women to continue with scientific careers.
There has never been a time when it was more important that we understand science and its value. There has never been a time when it was more important to acknowledge the value of women scientists and the work they do. We want to achieve full and equal access to and participation in science for women and girls.
